Fort Adams Wedding, Newport RI | Connor & Kayla

Connor + Kayla

Fort Adams - Newport, RI

Connor and Kayla’s September wedding at Fort Adams in Newport, RI, was a vibrant and heartfelt celebration that perfectly blended personal touches with timeless elegance. The sage, light terracotta, and ivory wedding colors brought a warm and inviting feel to the historic coastal venue. Kayla created unforgettable moments by sharing a series of emotional first looks—with her bridesmaids, her father, and Connor—each filled with tears and joy. These intimate moments set the tone for a day full of love and connection.

Adding to the classic charm, the couple rented a vintage car that made for striking portraits against the scenic backdrop of Fort Adams. One of the most touching highlights was Kayla’s mid-reception outfit change into her mother’s wedding dress, thoughtfully altered and shortened to reflect her modern style while honoring family tradition. This meaningful gesture was a beautiful nod to the past and a memorable moment that perfectly captured the blend of old and new throughout their day.

The Belle Mer Portrait Guide: Where to Take Your Wedding Photos

Take Advantage of Every Beautiful Backdrop

A Belle Mer wedding offers no shortage of beautiful places for portraits. From the gardens to the waterfront, each area of the property brings something different to your wedding gallery. One of the best ways to make the most of your Belle Mer wedding day is to not limit yourself to just one portrait location.

The Gardens Out Front

The gardens in front of Belle Mer create a classic and romantic setting for portraits. Surrounded by greenery and beautiful landscaping, this area is perfect for elegant portraits that highlight your dress, veil, and all the details of your wedding day.

The Grand Lawn

The open lawn gives your portraits a completely different feel. The space allows for wider photographs that showcase the scale of Belle Mer while keeping the focus on you. It's also a beautiful spot for movement, especially if you have a long veil or dramatic dress.

The Waterfront

Of course, you can't get married at Belle Mer without taking advantage of the waterfront. The open views and Newport coastline create an airy, coastal backdrop that instantly gives your gallery a different look. Walking along the water, standing together on the shoreline, or simply taking a quiet moment away from your guests can create some of the most natural portraits of the day.

Sunset Portraits

And then there's sunset. If your timeline allows, stepping outside for a few minutes during golden hour is absolutely worth it. The changing light creates a completely different atmosphere and gives you an opportunity to finish your portrait session with some of the most romantic images of the day.

Don't Just Choose One Location

One of the biggest advantages of a Belle Mer wedding is having so many beautiful backdrops all in one place. Instead of spending your entire portrait session in one location, take advantage of the variety the property offers. Start in the gardens, move across the lawn, head toward the waterfront, and if timing allows, step out again for sunset.

Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create your gallery, so make the most of it. A variety of locations means a variety of photographs, giving your final gallery different perspectives, moods, and moments while still telling the story of your Belle Mer wedding day.

Why We Love Shepherds Run Weddings

A beautiful setting for dinner, drinks, dancing, and everything in between

There’s so much to love about a wedding at Shepherds Run. From the vineyard views to the beautiful spaces throughout the property, it’s a venue that makes every part of the wedding day feel special.

The Vineyard Setting

One of the things that makes Shepherds Run so special is its beautiful vineyard setting. The rows of vines create a romantic, natural backdrop that feels both elegant and relaxed, giving the property a distinct sense of place. Whether you’re taking portraits among the vines or simply looking out across the grounds, the vineyard brings a beautiful countryside atmosphere to the entire wedding day.

The Courtyard Ceremony

The courtyard at Shepherds Run is one of the most beautiful spots on the property to exchange vows. Surrounded by lush greenery, the vineyard, and the venue’s charming architecture, it creates an intimate setting while still feeling elevated and grand. There’s something especially beautiful about the way the courtyard frames the ceremony, giving the space a natural sense of romance without needing much added decoration.

The Sophisticated Cocktail Hour

Cocktail hour at Shepherds Run is more than just a transition between the ceremony and reception, it’s a chance for the celebration to slow down and for everyone to enjoy the moment. The sophisticated cocktail hour area blends beautifully with the charm of the venue, creating an inviting space for guests to gather, sip champagne, and celebrate with the newlyweds.

From beautifully styled food and drink displays to candid conversations and laughter with family and friends, there are so many little moments happening during cocktail hour. We love photographing this part of the day because it captures the excitement and energy of the celebration in a more relaxed way, while also giving guests time to take in the vineyard and enjoy everything Shepherds Run has to offer.

Indoor & Outdoor Reception Options

We love that Shepherds Run offers the flexibility of both indoor and outdoor reception spaces, giving couples the freedom to create a celebration that fits their vision. The indoor space feels elegant and inviting, while an outdoor reception allows the vineyard and surrounding landscape to become part of the experience. From beautifully styled tables and dinner under the open sky to the energy of a packed dance floor indoors, both options provide the perfect setting for celebrating with your favorite people.

The Charm of Shepherds Run

More than anything, Shepherds Run has a charm that is hard to replicate. The vineyard, architecture, courtyard, and thoughtfully designed spaces all come together to create a wedding venue that feels romantic, sophisticated, and full of character.

Regatta Place - Newport, RI

Looking back on John and Julia's wedding at Regatta Place reminds us why we love Newport weddings so much. Their day was the perfect mix of coastal elegance and laid back summer charm, with beautiful harbor views, sunshine, and a celebration that felt effortless from start to finish.

A Grand & Romantic Rosecliff Wedding

Ben + VictoriA

ROsecliff - Newport, RI

Some wedding days feel like they belong in the pages of a classic romance novel, and Ben + Victoria's wedding was exactly that. Set against the timeless beauty of Newport's historic mansions, their celebration blended elegant details, meaningful artistry, and breathtaking architecture into a wedding day that felt effortlessly sophisticated.

The day’s wedding portraits began at The Elms, one of Newport's most iconic Gilded Age mansions. Before saying "I do," Ben and Victoria wandered the estate's grand gardens and marble terraces for portraits. The formal architecture, perfectly manicured landscapes, and quiet elegance of The Elms created an unforgettable backdrop that perfectly complemented their refined wedding vision. Every corner offered another stunning portrait opportunity, making it easy to see why this location is one of our favorite places for wedding photography in Newport.

One of the most personal details of the day was Victoria's hand-painted wedding invitations. Every brushstroke reflected the creativity and care she poured into planning their wedding, making the stationery much more than an invitation, it became a work of art. Because so much thought went into every detail, we made sure to dedicate time to styling and photographing everything from the invitations and heirloom accessories to the florals and carefully chosen finishing touches. These detail photographs help tell the complete story of a wedding day and preserve the little pieces that often become family keepsakes.

Ben and Victoria's wedding is a perfect reminder that the most memorable celebrations are built on meaningful details. From hand-painted invitations to iconic Newport locations, every element came together to create a wedding that was both deeply personal and undeniably elegant. If you're dreaming of a romantic Newport wedding filled with timeless architecture, beautiful portraits, and carefully documented details, Rosecliff and The Elms offer an unforgettable setting for a celebration that will never go out of style.

Why a Late Night Food Truck is the Ultimate Wedding Surprise

Pat + Nicole

Not only is a late night food truck a fun wedding surprise, but it’s also a thoughtful way to keep the celebration going. Whether it’s burgers, tacos, wieners, pizza, ice cream, or your favorite comfort food, serving a late night snack gives everyone a chance to refuel before heading back to the dance floor.

A food cart also adds so much personality to your wedding day. It’s a chance to incorporate your favorite local vendor, share a food you love as a couple, or simply create an experience your guests won’t expect.

From a photography perspective, food carts create a relaxed, candid atmosphere that leads to some of the sweetest photos. Whether you’re sharing a late night bite together, laughing with friends in line, or grabbing one last snack before the night ends, these moments are authentic and full of joy.

If you’re looking for a reception idea that’s equal parts practical, memorable, and photogenic, a late night food cart is hard to beat. It’s a small detail that leaves a lasting impression. After the wedding, your guests (and photo gallery) will thank you for it.

After hours of dancing, your guests will definitely appreciate a bite to eat. A late night snack gives everyone a chance to recharge before getting back to the celebration.

  • It Gives Your Guests a Fun Surprise

A food cart is one of those unexpected details that people remember. It adds an interactive experience and gives everyone something to get excited about once the reception is in full swing.

  • It Shows Off Your Personality

Whether it’s tacos, lobster rolls, pizza, mini donuts, or ice cream, choosing a food cart that reflects your favorite foods makes your wedding feel even more personal and uniquely you.

  • It Ends the Night on a High Note

As the celebration winds down, a delicious late night treat is the perfect finishing touch. It’s a simple detail that leaves guests heading home happy, full, and talking about your wedding for years to come.

  • It Makes for the Cutest Photos

There’s something so genuine about sharing your favorite food together at the end of the night. These candid moments often become some of the most memorable images in your wedding gallery.

Michael + Carolyn

Castle Hill InN Wedding

Newport, RI

Some wedding days simply feel natural and right from beginning to end. Michael & Carolyn’s celebration at Castle Hill Inn was exactly that. Set against the iconic Newport coastline, their day was filled with thoughtful details, genuine moments, and the kind of joy that never had to be staged. Every part of the celebration reflected who they are as a couple, classic, relaxed, and completely present with the people they love.

Castle Hill provided the perfect setting for a coastal Rhode Island wedding. The sweeping views of Narragansett Bay, elegant grounds, and historic charm created a beautiful backdrop without taking attention away from what mattered most. Whether they were sharing a moment together or celebrating with family and friends, Michael and Carolyn made every part of the day meaningful.

One of our favorite parts of this wedding was how everything came together. There was no rushing through moments or forcing perfect photos, just a couple enjoying every second of a day they had been looking forward to for so long. Those are often the moments that make for the most memorable images, and this gallery is full of them.

If you’re planning a wedding at Newport, this venue offers the best of coastal New England. It remains elegant without feeling overdone, scenic without trying too hard, and the perfect place to celebrate a wedding that feels true to you.
